A married man has had his penis cut off by his mistress in a hotel room in China.

The victim, apparently a successful 50-year-old businessman identified only by his surname Liu, had started an affair with the younger woman five years ago and had promised her repeatedly that he was going to divorce his wife.

He reportedly told the woman, some 30 years his junior, that he and his wife lived separate lives at their home in the city of Hangzhou, in China's Zhejiang Province, and that he wanted to start a new life with the younger woman.The mistress, identified only by her surname Zhang, became increasingly frustrated and annoyed at his constant excuses for not fulfilling his promise.

She said that when they had checked into a hotel in Hangzhou for one of their regular meetings she decided to confront him and demanded he make a decision. Other guests reported overhearing quarrelling in the room before Liu burst out of the room screaming and running down the corridor.

An unidentified employee at the hotel said she also heard screaming coming from the couple's hotel room, after which she first saw a young woman quickly exiting the room.

The staff member then saw Liu in the lobby, covered in his own blood, and with even more blood spewing out of where his private parts should have been.

She told local media: "I went into the room and there was a pair of a scissors on the bed, and a severed penis lying on the bed."
