Life has its ups and down and chief Timipre Sylva has had his fair share of both in his personal and political life. Though he has a profound past but we shall concern ourselves with his first Era as distinguished Governor of Bayelsa State, who initiated the Amnesty programme that brought about the end of bloody militancy campaign in the Niger Delta region.

He initiated infrastructural and intellectual projects to empower qualified indigenous contractors and professionals from all works of life, paid bursary to students, Built a standard law school, gave scholarships to son and daughters of Bayelsa state to study abroad, initiated the CCDA master plan for Yenegoa; a phase by phase developmental plan aimed at making the Niger Delta capital an envy of the world and the right destination for all kinds of investors.

His developmental drive were numerous so it  made Bayelsa State a bee hive of activities, jobs were created, earning power was high amongst the people but the boom was cut short by vested interests.

Unceremoniously he left the Creek heaven after countless persecution from the people that felt their interests should come first before the collective interests of the people. Label with several unprintable names and eventually charged to court on trumped up corruption charges. Can any accusation hold water without verifiable evidence admissible in court? Every schooled mind should know the answer. His persecution was a deliberate witch hunt and without any evidence to nail him  to their vengeful cross for four years; all corruption cases against him were eventually dropped when the people forcing the hands of the law against him left power for the needed change Nigerians has been yearning for.

He was one of the best performing PDP governors at the time but was brutally betrayed by the party he worked so hard to keep afloat in his State and at the federal level. The militancy problem at the time was a national crises and a primary problem of his party. He made sure the crisis was contained by his grand amnesty initiative which the Late Great President Yaradua endorsed and implemented. Today, many that were once militants have become Pilots, lawyers, oil and gas skilled professionals, business men etc.

No one will stay in a burning house and live to tell the story. That was the case of Chief Timipre Sylva; instead of dying in a house he helped to build he abandoned it for the sake of his dear life and joined a new party called APC out of principle. The PDP party he helped to build was hijacked and was no longer following the true part that will bring about the needed change in Nigeria, and Chief Timipre Sylva being a person of sound moral and political principle did not want to be on the wrong side of history.

He joined the APC because the party was organised for the purpose of saving the Nigerian State and He did not also want his dear state (Bayelsa) to be left out of the sweeping positive political change destined to happen. The gambit paid off and APC clinched the seat of power at the federal level. His decision has always been for the interest of the people and the motivating factor for his return to run for the office of the governor of Bayelsa State on the platform of the Party that is destined to better Nigeria and Bayelsa State.
On his return to Bayelsa State he could barely recognise the city that was rising from the shadows when he was the Governor. You could see the expression of great pain in his eyes as he looked at the waste dump the city has become. The CCDA office he empowered with the plan of properly developing the great city was a shadow of its self and deserted, the five star tower hotel he took to the eighteenth floor was still at the same level he left it four years ago, all the internally roads around the city he constructed have all gone bad for lack of proper maintenance and clearing of drainages.

The city was in a mess and all the positive activities the city was known for was gone. Civil servants he met were crying because of inconsistent remuneration, retired civil servants have been abandoned to their faith after serving the state with their lives; the state is in chaos and in his pain he exclaimed “I am determined to right the wrongs done to my people and State”.

He is a man that is known for winning, and he is determined to return to creek haven irrespective of the black mail and unfounded and vile names he is being called by those that has openly failed his people in everything good that he once provided for his people. He is thankful to God that the people have come to realise who their true oppressors are and are determined to vote him into the office of the Governor overwhelmingly on December 5th 2015.
